The Guilds of Sibiu is a piece for chamber quintet by Thomas Vieira, showcasing the 2021 IconArts festival theme of Innovation and the rich tradition of craftsmanship in Sibiu.

Many generations of Romanian craftspersons have innovated within their field, including the legendary shoemaker Hermann’s cunning to secure the land of Sibiu. We’ll journey together through the town square to visit goldsmiths, stonemasons, glassblowers, and more.

Throughout the work, Thomas employs a compelling musical language to evoke the essence of each guild. Join us as we celebrate Sibiu and its contribution to the growth of trade and culture in Transylvania, Romania, and beyond. Movements
